The Charlie Dress

I need to design a dress that is better for the non-accent waistline clients. So, I decided to do a caftan style that is a straight shaft, and more of a box/kimono armband. The original design is just a rounded boatneck collar, but I’m going to do a neck that is sliced up the middle with a peek a boo contrast binding the next time I make it. Once it was completed, I decided to add a sequin trim around the neckband and armband. It became more formal in nature. My original dress for the website came out as a […]

The Jen in Leopard

“The leopard is a solitary animal of the bush and forest and is mainly nocturnal in habit, although it sometimes basks in the sun”….story of my life. I created a silk caftan dress in Leopard for Sequin Saturday in The Jen Dress, and it is my new best friend. This time, I made it just to my ankle and used a rolled hem and French seams. It is practically reversible, except for the Sequin Saturday dress label on the neckline. I have to wear a nude or black slip under it, but because it’s so flowy and sheer, it adds […]

Sewing with Sequins

This week I created “The Charlie” pink sequin caftan dress out of a cute pink sequin fabric and lined it Flowers Get All The Powers. It really came together! I have absolutely no idea when I will have an opportunity to wear this dress, but it is adorable. I was worried about how to get the sequins to lay flat on the seams, but with a bit of effort and an attention to detail, I removed the sequins that would be along the seam allowance and then used a rolled hem to attach the lining (flowers get all the powers) […]

Sequin Saturday Jacket

I’m heavily invested in developing my favorite Sequin Saturday jacket. I am learning that fabric doesn’t necessarily translate into the work of art I have envisioned in my head. So far, I’m about $150 dollars and twenty hours of time into figuring this out. My goal is to launch the Sequin Saturday Dusters and Jackets by September. What pattern will work the best with sequins, what type of sequins are the best to work with me? Seam allowances…long term wear… and ultimately customer demand for my Sequin Saturday jacket. I have a huge investment in this jacket. I hope what […]

The Jen Dress by Sequin Saturday

The story behind the creation of the cornerstone piece of my collection is one rooted in Virginia, where I was raised and attended college. This is the story about how I created The Jen Dress in the Connells Silk Caftan. It all started with the desire to create the perfect silk caftan. I was going to a concert with some friends from my hometown. I wasn’t in the mood to wear a pair of white jeans and a tank with sandals, which had become the standard uniform for Atlanta. While at my fabric Mecca, I found a really cool blue […]
