Sequin Saturday

I did a thing…Sequin Saturday by Jennifer Risey

It’s Sequin Saturday!

I love sequins. Whenever I see a sparkle calling my name in a store or website, I gravitate towards it, click on it, and buy it. For years, I have been celebrating Saturdays by saying, It’s Sequin Saturday!” I will throw on something sparkly and run my errands. I wear sequins in the suburbs, even though I live in a community where everything shuts down at 9:00 p.m. It’s my statement to the world that life doesn’t need to be boring. Never aspire to blend in. Stand out. Don’t dim your flame!

We go to Mardi Gras every year and rent a house on St. Charles Avenue for the week so we can participate in the greatest party on earth. We get to go back to being residents of our favorite city in the world for a blessed seven days.

Every Saturday of the last weekend of Mardi Gras, our dress up theme is always “Sequin Saturday!” Our guests get decked out head to toe in sparkles, sequins, and bling. We stand out on the neutral ground in front of our house and catch ALL OF THE BEADS. I spend the month of January trying to find the next best thing, upping my sequin game. I guarantee myself to be a magnet for the finest throws the krewes of Saturday parades have on their floats. A clothing rack even makes the trip with us. All my sequins are readily available and accessible to share with an underdressed guest.

The goal of Sequin Saturday is to be unique, and not be caught wearing the same thing of some other reveler on the neutral ground.

This year, I came home from New Orleans inspired to up my game. Our Mardi Gras Krewe for 2023 will be the best dressed on the parade route decked out in Sequin Saturday couture. No doubt.

I searched for sequin fabric in the Atlanta area and found a highly regarded distributor of fabric (that’s a story for another day). A few days later, while taking a quick lunch time road trip with my bestie, we landed in fabric Mecca. My creative juices exploded! I shall never dress boring again! Next thing I knew, eighteen yards of sequin and silk fabric were in my black plastic trash bag. I had the most beautiful silk brocade embroidered sequin fabric in pink and green in my possession. Once I got home, I set up one of the empty rooms in my house to be my sewing studio. My Bernina sewing machine was dusted off and went to work.

The day flew by as I got lost in my day and lost in the creativity. I had the best day.

The Sequin Saturday Caftan was fun to design because it inspired me to share my creativity. That night I bought the URL www.sequinsaturday.com launching Sequin Saturday with Jennifer Risey brand (more to that story adventure). I am now designing and making couture creations for the country club lifestyle. It really fits my personality and I’m having fun doing it.

A lot of gorgeous products are planned for Sequin Saturday.

Sequin dusters, purses, evening bags, skirts, silk palazzo pants… Regardless of what is to come in the fall and holidays, grab the Sequin Saturday Caftan Dress: Sweet Briar in pink and green before it sells out, and the fabric is no longer available.  This caftan can be worn to a summer wedding, a country club summer event, or even your college reunion. I’m wearing my Sequin Saturday Caftan Dress: Sweet Briar to Kroger because “It’s Sequin Saturday!”
