This week I created “The Charlie” pink sequin caftan dress out of a cute pink sequin fabric and lined it Flowers Get All The Powers.
It really came together! I have absolutely no idea when I will have an opportunity to wear this dress, but it is adorable.
I was worried about how to get the sequins to lay flat on the seams, but with a bit of effort and an attention to detail, I removed the sequins that would be along the seam allowance and then used a rolled hem to attach the lining (flowers get all the powers) to the sequin portion of the caftan so that the dress wouldn’t be itchy. Wow! It is so cute.
I used a denim needle when specifically sewing the sequins when there were still sequins on the seam, but the lining I just used a 70/10 fine needle since the fabric was delicate.
I had originally planned to use the fabric to make the Sequin Saturday sequin duster, but because of the volume of sequins in the pink sequin fabric, I was a bit worried of the complexity of getting the sequins to lay flat for my first round. The dress has a round neckline and so it’s easy to slip over the head.
