The Jen Dress by Sequin Saturday

The story behind the creation of the cornerstone piece of my collection is one rooted in Virginia, where I was raised and attended college. This is the story about how I created The Jen Dress in the Connells Silk Caftan. It all started with the desire to create the perfect silk caftan.

I was going to a concert with some friends from my hometown. I wasn’t in the mood to wear a pair of white jeans and a tank with sandals, which had become the standard uniform for Atlanta. While at my fabric Mecca, I found a really cool blue silk fabric that reminded me of as if a giraffe and a leopard had gotten together. I had initially planned to make the fabric into a one size caftan like my Sequin Saturday Caftan Sweet Briar. However, I decided that by using silk, I could improve the caftan design to be more flattering (and sexy) by giving some definition in the chest area. Then I added pockets! The Jen Dress was born.

Because it was “Sequin Saturday”, I made sure I wore my silver sequin Golden Goose trainers. We had so much fun at that concert in the parking lot! The Connells played all the songs we knew and we danced our asses off!

After the concert was over, we packed up our chairs to go home. A lady came up to me and said, “WHERE DID YOU GET THAT DRESS? I HAVE BEEN STARRING AT YOU ALL NIGHT”. We all laughed and my girlfriends said, “It’s Sequin Saturday! The Jen Dress! Coming soon!”… I guess it was my sign to do something about sharing my creations. I owned the website Sequin Saturday, so now it was time to dust off my html skills and get to work. The rest is history.
